Highfields is celebrating an ‘outstanding’ score for the behaviour of its pupils in a recent Ofsted inspection.
The report also recognised Highfields School in Cardrew Lane for ‘encouraging the development of the creative, emotional and moral potential of every child within a small, friendly, family environment’.
Highfields, which was opened as a non-selective independent school in 1999 by Head Teacher, Mary Haddy, currently has 58 pupils enrolled ranging from four and a half to 16 years.
Mrs Haddy said: “The whole team were really proud of the latest Ofsted report.
“We work hard to ensure the pupils are provided with an environment which suits their own needs and allows them to develop and make good progress.
“It also follows on nicely from our last Ofsted report which praised our superb senior teachers and the work they do.”
Also highlighted by the inspection was the work Highfields had done to improve outdoor provision to enhance the games programme, whilst the school’s ability to challenge and stretch more able pupils was deemed as ‘impressive’.
“I think one of the nicest things for me though was the feedback that our pupils gave to the inspector,” added Mrs Haddy.
“One child said that they really like it here because they feel safe and that the teachers are always around to look after them.
“That was very touching because for us, safeguarding the childrens’ welfare, health and safety is as important as their education.”
The school, which can cater for 65 pupils, is currently taking admissions for the 2009/10 school year.
