An independent school in Redruth is getting ready for the start of the new school year with the arrival of a highflying teacher.
Highfields School in Cardrew Lane has welcomed infant teacher Gemma Machin to the staff.
Gemma will be joined on her first day at school by former Highfields pupil, Launa Ball, who is taking up the position of teaching assistant.
The double appointment coincides with the redecoration of the infant school area, as well as the opening of a new outdoor play area and garden.
Gemma, who is also a qualified pilot, said: “I am so excited to be working with the children at Highfields, the school has a great reputation as an independent school that focuses on the childrens’ all round development.
“I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and being part of the school’s success.”
Highfields, which was opened as a non-selective independent school in 1999 by Head Teacher, Mary Haddy, currently has 58 pupils enrolled ranging from four and a half to 16 years.
Mrs Haddy said: “We’re really excited about the appointment of Gemma and Launa.
“Gemma is a well qualified, enthusiastic and very experienced teacher who fits in with the ethos we have at the school.
“We’re still trying to work out how we can utilise her skill as a pilot in the lessons though!
“It’s also great to welcome Launa back to Highfields. She was a delightful pupil and her knowledge of the school will be a big asset in helping the teachers and pupils.”
